About me
I am a former senior editor at King's Publishing Group Inc. and a retired English & Journalism teacher. I now work as a freelance editor, proofreader, and writer.
My college degrees include English (B.A., summa cum laude), English Education
(B.S., magna cum laude), and Natural Resources Technology (A.A.S.).

My diverse interests and life adventures help me help others write their story. My experiences include editing, academics, literature, education, publishing, writing, journalism, research, photography, farming, forestry, wildland firefighting, theatre, sled dog mushing, tower work, and construction.

A short list of my favorite big-name fiction authors includes Flannery O'Connor, William Shakespeare, and Ernest Hemingway. My favorite reads include nonfiction outdoor survival, memoirs, and nonfiction articles.

When not wordsmithing, I enjoy historical reenactment, classic movies, fixing things, exploring, and working on my cabin in the Idaho desert.
About the cabin
A Writing Cabin is a place of solitude, a room of one's own—whether in a quiet wood or in a bustling metropolis—where one's creativity can take wing. The corner of a café. The divan in the dorm. Can you contemplate in a cacophonous cubicle? Or do you crave a cozy cabin or quiet cove?

What my clients say
Mark was the faithful editor of my blog for nearly two years. He edited hundreds of blog posts, and he always paid great attention to detail. He met every deadline. I appreciated his competitive pricing, and he was available if and when I had questions. As a former college English instructor, I give Mark an A+.
Dennis Conrad — Author

I highly recommend Mark Carter to work as editor for your writing projects. I use Mark as my "go-to editor" for monthly blog articles. He returns them promptly with valuable corrections and revisions in grammar, syntax, and wordsmithing. I like to say he turns my B papers into a polished A.

We consulted Mark regarding our annual newsletter, and he also helped us write some of the articles. He was a pleasure to work with and incredibly helpful!
